Had heard a lot about YUBA city..... vasda punjab in US. It gives a great feeling of love, pride and honour when you hear that punjabis own agricultural lands in US. "Es paraye mulk vich v Sardariya nibhaa raye ne!!".
So it just happened to be on the occasion of 300th 'GurGaddi Divas' (the sacred tercentenary of the Guru Granth Sahib), that I visited Yuba City, Nagar Kirtan (Parade). Just to tell you about the history, 300 years back the sacred book of the Sikhs, was bestowed as the MENTOR, GUIDE, TEACHER of the people, by Guru Gobind Singh ji, he terminated the series of physical Guru's that we had, and instead declared the book (containing the teachings of highly reverend people from all religions) to be the only guiding light for the SIKHS. And so 'Guru Granth Sahib'.
Anyways, that is a little bit on the history, as that is not the main theme of todays writing. It is all about my observation on the Nagar Kirtan organised on the occasion.
My first question, the amount of money spent on the pomp and show was no way huge. Had it not been better, if that money would have been used for the upliftment of the Punjab, and the needy Sikh brethren across the globe?
Before anyone comments, let me say I am not against the celebration, but I am for the proper utilisation of the funds, which will help the human race to come up.
My next question, how many people actually are true devotees, and how many are there for the 'mela'?
Out of the 125,000 people who attended the function, few of them even knew the cause of the celebration. I was shocked to see 'Guru Sahab' being taken in a palky (decorated chariot), and behind the holy form, there were trucks filled with youngsters, kids, even seniors, enjoying to the tune of rap and pop punjabi music.
Dude, you cannot mix two things!! A sheer scene of mockery, on Sikhism.
Everyone is busy promoting their truck/towing companies, someone promoting their clubs. Boss!! you do promotions, you do advertisiments, but please do not do this on the name of Guru.
